If you’ve read any business book or blog, you’ve probably read something about consistency. It’s a word that I hate with a passion, not because I disagree with it, but because I struggle with it daily. Consistency isn’t about a skill set or creativity, it’s about being disciplined.
When we stop being the frenetic people who never have enough help/time/money, that’s when we reap the benefits of our hustle. Focusing on being consistent with our standards and practices allow us to finally get ahead of the deadlines.
I love what author Jon Acuff says about consistency:

“This is not a sexy word or a fun idea, but it’s critical. Your billboard needs to have the same voice as your website, which needs to have the same voice as your Twitter account. Why? Consistency in your brand inspires confidence. It sends a signal to all your customers and your potential customers that you’re a detailed business. It shows discipline. That’s why when I wrote for the Home Depot we were incredibly serious about the shade of orange we used. The fonts weren’t accidental. The way we talked about saving you money was not varied. We strove for consistency. Do you need a detailed brand bible that outlines every possible execution of your brand? Maybe not, but regardless of how small or large your business is, you need to aim for consistency.”

Being consistent is essential for any growth.

What Does Scripture Say About Consistency?

“For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.” – Malachi 3:6

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17

God knows his “brand” so well. He’s dependable, reliable, loving, slow to anger, and worthy of your trust. God is eternal and unchanging— He has always been and will always be. Even when we are not consistent God is. Some try to argue that we see elements of God not being consistent or changing his mind in scripture. The God we see in the Old Testament is the same God we see in the New Testament, the ways in which He interacts with his people is different in light of the birth of Christ. God is always seeking out the best options to showcase His beauty and omnipotence in every situation.

Just like us in our lives or businesses, we must always be consistent with our “brands.” Yes, the medium may change, or the way we interact might be different, but the core of who we are and what we do shouldn’t change.

Application

How to be Consistent:

  • Know your Why
  •  Have a clear and meaningful vision on what you want to achieve. Stick with one thing. Don’t try to accomplish everything at once. ONE AT A TIME.
  • Schedule it.
  • “Don’t prioritize your schedule, schedule your priorities” – Steven Covey
  •  It will be hard, and you will not want to do it. Push through.
  •  Don’t have an all or nothing mindset.
  •  Sometimes you will be inconsistent, and that’s ok. We’re human. Just start the next day again and don’t feel like you have to start all the way at the beginning again.

Today, may you know that God consistently loves you. The God of the universe is unwavering when it comes to you. May you, too, be consistent in your creations.
